Karma Theksum Choling (KTC) means "The Dharma Sanctuary of the Three Vehicles of the Karma Kagyu". The three vehicles are the foundational vehicle of the hinayana, the vast and profound vehicle of the mahayana, and the swift, ultimate path of the vajrayana. Albany KTC was established in 1979 by the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa.
We are affiliated with Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, NY, the principal seat of the current 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje in North America. The Karmapa is the supreme head of the Kagyu lineage and his spiritual representative is Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. Albany KTC offers Buddhist teachings and practices such as Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion, Buddha Amitabha, Green Tara, and Guru Rinpoche, the second buddha of Uddiyana. We also provide instruction in basic meditation practice.
